FIBERSHED

Vashon Island Fibershed promotes connections among local fiber producers and users. We facilitate sharing of equipment, materials and skills. We strive to sustain our community of fiber producers and artisans—the whole fiber shebang. Working within a 100 mile radius of Vashon Island, our Fibershed seeks to utilize local materials whenever possible, including fibers, dye plants and upcycled fabric. We are also an affiliate of the larger Fibershed nonprofit organization, connecting groups throughout the world that are dedicated to the soil-to-skin movement.

LAND TRUST

Our Mission Statement: It is the mission of the Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust to conserve land and to protect the natural ecosystems and rural character of Vashon-Maury Island for the benefit of the public and future generations. The Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust was founded in 1989 by a dedicated group of islanders who were concerned about preserving Vashon and Maury. Since that time, it has been instrumental in the acquisition and permanent preservation of over fourteen hundred acres of carefully chosen property on Vashon and Maury.Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust purchased their first farmland conservation land in September 2015, the 12 acre Matsuda Farm.

VASHON PARK DISTRICT

Vashon Park District was created by the Islanders of Vashon and Maury Island in 1983 to provide park and recreational opportunities to complement our island lifestyle. Today, Vashon Park District supports 18 Island parks and programming that serves the entire community. In 1999, VIGA spearheaded a community-wide effort to raise over $200,000 to purchase land in the town center of Vashon. This land was then turned over to the Vashon Park District, creating a partnership to preserve in perpetuity the home of the Vashon Island Farmers Market now known as the Village Green. The Village Green is a 0.1 acre farmers market and community activity park located in the Town of Vashon on the west side of Vashon Highway. The space is occupied by a series of vendor concession stalls on market days during the year through a partnership between the Vashon Park District and the Vashon Island Grower's Association.  A public notice kiosk, an open-sided shelter for venders, and two picnic tables are located on the site. The Village Green hosts a variety of events year 'round, including summer evening folk dances with live music. It is also used as an outdoor theatrical performance area in the warm months. The Village Green is located at 17505 Vashon Hwy. SW, Vashon, WA.
