Island Farmers Feeding Island Neighbors

Since 2009

When you support the Food Access Partnership, you make a double impact:

  1. You help make food accessible to every Islander

  2. You support local farmers.

We remove the red tape and because we’re volunteer driven, administrative costs are nearly zero. Your contribution goes directly to end food insecurity and supporting local farmers.

Quote from an anonymous customer — “I just want to say Thank you! I am so grateful for the positive impact this program has had on my family. It gives us access to local organic foods and also provides my children the experience of going to local farm stands and choosing their own foods. I am so deeply grateful.”

The Food Access Partnership’s work is primarily made possible with the financial support of friends near and far. We are also grateful for grants and donations from The Hendrix Foundation, Granny’s Attic, the Wildwoods Foundation, Les Dames d’Escoffier of Seattle, and your donations to VIGA.

How It Works

The Food Access Partnership distributes VIGA Farm Bucks to the Vashon community.  VIGA Farm Bucks come in $2 increments and can be used exactly like cash to pay for fresh food. They're redeemable at the Vashon Farmers Market and at VIGA-member farm stands.

When you’re ready to pay after selecting your items, simply hand the VIGA Farm Bucks to the farmer you are supporting. If shopping at one of the “honor system” or unattended farm stands, simply put them in the cash box. VIGA Farm Bucks can be used in combination with all other forms of payment. No change given for VIGA Farm Bucks.

The following farms participate in the Farm Stand Credit program, which is similar to the Farm Bucks program except that you can log your purchases against a credit at the stand. Instructions at the following Farm Stands:

  • Forest Garden Farm – 10515 SW 140th Street

  • Northbourne Farm –16530 91st Avenue SW

  • Provo Farm – 20121 87th Avenue SW

  • Plum Forest Farm – 20020 107th Avenue SW

  • La Biondo Farm and Kitchen – 20602 111th Avenue SW

  • Stella Maris Farm — 23419 107th Ave. SW

  • Pacific Crest Farm – 23720 Dockton Road SW

The Farm Stand Credit Program ended September 15, 2023.  It was very successful and we have used up all of the allotted funds donated to the program.  Farm Bucks will still be available at the Vashon Library through the end of the year.

How do I receive VIGA Farm Bucks?

Do You Qualify? Yes! Unlike most programs, we don’t require forms and paperwork. If you need food, we are pleased to provide VIGA Farm Bucks so you can purchase it.

At times, we also distribute VIGA Farm Bucks through any of our nine local non-profit partners (below). If you are receiving services from one of these organizations, talk with your case worker or staff member to check on availability.

  • The Senior Center

  • The Interfaith Council to Prevent Homelessness (IFCH)

  • Vashon Youth and Family Services (VYFS)

  • The DOVE Project

  • Saint Vincent de Paul—Vashon

  • The Vashon Maury Community Food Bank

  • Vashon HouseHold

We also distribute VIGA Farm Bucks at the Vashon Farmers Market, Saturdays at the Village Green and at the Vashon Library during their open hours.

You can also contact us directly at foodaccesspartnership@vigavashon.org. We will be happy to help.

Meet Our Team

The Food Access Partnership is able to keep administrative costs at nearly zero because of our volunteers.

What about EBT, SNAP, WIC, and Senior Benefits?

VIGA is pleased to receive these government-supported currencies at the Saturday Farmer’s Market. Unfortunately, we are unable to receive these at the Farm Stands. To learn more about government-assisted currencies, please go the Farmers Market page.
