The VIGA Food Entrepreneur Council
The Council is a select group of individuals with a record of innovation and success in a
food related business. The Council’s purpose is to help VIGA fulfill its mission: To
promote farming, healthy food, and a sustainable agricultural economy on Vashon
Island. Members will model, advise and inspire Vashon food growers and producers by
sharing their unique knowledge, skills and entrepreneurial experience. The Council has
no governance role or responsibility. Members serve at the request of the VIGA Board
Specifically, the members of the Council will lend their expertise and creativity to:
Help identify steps to grow the agricultural economy on Vashon Island.
Assist with fund and friend development by participating in/offering special
Lend their name to promote/advance VIGA’s efforts to build a dynamic, thriving
agricultural economy on Vashon Island.
Mentor and advise local farmers wanting to grow their business to serve the regional market
Food Entrepreneur Council:
Leslie Mackie is the founder of Macrina Bakery an award winning bakery and series of Seattle cafes. Macrina breads and pastries are sold throughout the region in fine restaurants and in most supermarkets and food stores. She is an accomplished baker and cookbook author.
BJ Duft has built Herban Feast into a catering, event planning and restaurant mini-empire employing 150 people in Seattle and on Vashon. BJ’s culinary roots are from the Herb Farm
Luke Lukoskie is the founder and chairman of Island Spring Organics an island-based organic tofu manufacturer. His business was at the forefront of the region’s organic food movement and ISO is hopes to support and promote additional organic producers from Vashon
Shauna James Ahern is a James Beard award winning cookbook author and internationally known blogger Gluten Free Girl. She and her husband, chef Danny Ahern, have developed and are marketing a new line of gluten free products.
