Saturday Farmers Market, 8/22/09
08/22/2009
It’s only a week till the great Tomato Taste-Off. It’s your next-to-last chance to scope out the competition.
The Saturday Vashon Farmers Market is open August 22 from 10 AM to 2 PM in the Village Green. Farmers will be selling island grown fruit, berries and vegetables, fresh cut flowers, and nursery plants.
It’s been a great year for tomatoes, and all the farmers have them. If you can’t eat all of them fresh, make spaghetti sauce or salsa. Cathy Fulton of Mariposa Gardens will be here to show you how. Our farm vendors have fresh eggs, crisp, fresh-picked string beans, lettuce and cooking greens, cucumbers, squash of all kinds, and freshly dug potatoes.
Sol Source and Sun Island Farm provide a wide range of delectable goodies. Watch for vegetable chowder and grilled corn on the cob. West Seattle song stylist Larry Murante will play for our listening pleasure.
Vashon Farmers Market takes EBT (food stamps), credit and debit cards, and most farmers take WIC (USDA Women, Infants and Children program) Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) checks.
